Wimbledon Introduces Video Review System in 2025.

Wimbledon tennis court with replay technology

Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing replay systems.

Replay technology will make its debut at The Championships this year.

Athletes are granted the right to contest particular decisions from the official, echoing the protocol currently in use at both the US Open and the Australian Open.

This innovation is slated for use on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles matches.

This move comes just a season following the AELTC rolled out electronic line calling, which brought an end to the longstanding tradition of line officials.

Reviewable Decisions

Players will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the umpire to review specific situations, including:

  • Whether a ball has bounced twice.
  • If a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
  • Potential interference at the conclusion of a rally.

Importantly, there will be an unlimited number on the number of challenges a player can request.

Practical Application

An illustrative case took place in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the video challenge against his opponent.

Draper conceded it was a tough call for the umpire, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and ruled Draper was guilty of interference, granting the point to Medvedev.

Growing Trend

This technology aren't new for Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the American major for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have the system implemented at all of its tournaments.

Other Changes

A further innovation at Wimbledon this year involves the addition of graphical cues on displays to support the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.

This solves instances where spectators have occasionally been uncertain if a shot was out or in.

In other news, with exactly a century of days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, the AELTC have further revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
